Macon, incorporated in 1823, is the county seat of Bibb County. The city is named in honor of Senator Nathaniel Macon. Macon’s City Hall served as the temporary state capitol, under the Confederacy, from November 1864 to March 1865.
The Bibb County courthouse was constructed in 1924 and remodeled in 1940. The courthouse is listed within the National Register of Historic Places.
