Beaver House

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

beaverhouse332.jpgThe Beaver House Restaurant is one of  Statesboro’s favorite restaurants.  When it opened 20 years ago there were few restaurants in this South Central Georgia city. The diner’s choice of where to eat were few and far between.  Now there are over 150 Restaurants in Statesboro and more coming all the time, but the Beaver House is still going strong.

The Beaver House offers a unique restaurant experience. The family style restaurant was modeled after the Mrs. Wilkes restaurant in Savannah and is actually one of the few remaining boarding house style restaurants in the state. The Beaver House is definitely more of a restaurant than a boarding house or a bed and breakfast. The restaurant serves two meals per day in downtown Statesboro. It is on the national register of historic places and a popular tourist attraction in this South Central Georgia city.

farm255rgb400.jpgThe Farm 255 menu, based on seasonal shifts in the field, changes as often as the weather.

Farm 255 is a restaurant that seeks to reconnect food to its roots and people to their food. It serves local, seasonal, and sustainable food for supper nightly. In addition to the Farm, the enterprise manages Full Moon Farms, a 7-acre organic/biodynamic farm in Athens. The Farm management says, “Unlike the owners of any other restaurant we know of, we are the folks sowing turnip seeds in the morning and cooking turnip greens in the evening.” (more…)

The Georgian Room’s indulgent fare is served on hand-painted china, silver flatware, and European linens – and is complemented by a world-class wine list. Here’s what Mobile says about its 5-Star rating for restaurants: “A Mobile Five-Star restaurant is one of the few flawless dining experiences in the country. These restaurants consistently provide their guests with exceptional food, superlative service, eletang decor, and exquisite presentations of each detail surrounding the meal.”

The Georgia Room is one of two Mobile 5-Star restaurants, the other being the Dining Room at the Buckhead Ritz Carlton in Atlanta.

bloggers1.gifUrban Spoon ranks 25 Atlanta restaurant bloggers based on the number of total views their blogs have received and also includes the number of posts to their blog. Blue Willow Inn

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

bluewillow.jpgNo one leaves hungry after feasting on a variety of Southern salads, meats, vegetables, breads and dessert at the  Blue Willow Inn located in a Greek Revival mansion in Social Circle.

The late Lewis Grizzard’s legendary Atlanta Journal-Constitution column, which was syndicated and published nationwide, proclaimed that at the Blue Willow Inn “Every dish was authentic and delicious” and gave the Blue Willow his “absolute highest mark, 5 bowls of turnip greens.” It put the Social Circle restaurant on the map, and it has been all downhill from there. Tongue Sausage

Monday, April 20th, 2009

The new Atlanta food and restaurant blogger Tongue Sausage commented to say that he appreciated the plug on the BG website last week, but the name of the blog is “Tongue Sausage” and not “Tough Sausage,” and to clarify the bloggers gender – “I’m a dude.” Sorry, Tongue Sausage, on both accounts. Corrections have been made, and I’m following your blog with interest.

P.S. I’m thinking about an Atlanta food and restaurant blog named “Tough Sassage.”
