By MARK JOHNSON, Restaurant Editor

I just finished a week of reviewing websites, scouring reviews and quizzing friends and contacts to eastwestrgb350.jpgfind the BEST ATHENS, GEORGIA RESTAURANTS, including the East West Bistro on Broad Street pictured here. Use these 3 easy and fun searches to check my choices. And let me know if you think I’ve missed anything.

1. Type Athens in the text box at the top of the home page. Select Georgia restaurants from the category box. Refine your search by selecting type of food.

Or…

2. Search by restaurant name. Type the name of the restaurant in the text box at the top of the home page. Remember less is more. The search function will search for EVERY word you type. Better to search for “Grits” than Grits vegetarian restaurant.

Or..

3. For a REAL short cut, click on the link below.

Searching for Georgia restaurants is easy and fun whether you know exactly city you’re going to or want to travel around Georgia a bit before settling on your final destination.

Let me know how the search works for you. And let me know if I’m missing your favorite Athens, Georgia restaurant; I’ll add it to the list.

  • Love the food, it’s fresh and unique, tastes great and a wonderful variety. Great service, friendly people. A Yahoo! User 12/2005.
  • I dine at this wonderful place as much as possible. They have an amazing salad that I have every time I go. They also have great burgers (my son says the best he has ever had). I have also had a really great chicken sandwich with grilled mushrooms, peppers and onions. My husband’s favorite is the grilled salmon club. Salmon and bacon, how could you go wrong. This place is worth a try for all. Seating is limited and the hours are strictly lunch (11-2). Get there early and enjoy!!!! Dana W. on Boorah 3/2008.
  • Amazing. Harriett on thesuggestr 4/2009.

Horseradish Grill

Read What Horseradish Grill Is Saying About Itself…
horseradish-wine.jpgReminiscent of a day and time when the pace was much slower, and nearby Powers Ferry Road was little more than a dusty horse trail, Horseradish Grill - Atlanta’s oldest continuously operating restaurant is a dining experience offering guests a glimpse of yesteryear. The cuisine of the American South is the oldest and most completely developed of all regional American cuisines. It is a culinary tradition based on seasonal freshness, ethnic diversity, and simply prepared, highly flavorful food. At Horseradish Grill, we embrace the philosophy that there is an immediacy to good food and cooking: that there is value in understanding the connection between a region, its history and its people, the seasons and natural rhythm of life and the benefits other than nutritional, to be reaped in the celebration of breaking bread.

  • We usually go here on special occasions, and when we have guests in town (I try to suggest often, for any occasion, “Honey, it’s Tuesday, let’s go the Horseradish Grill for dinner!”), every time it has been DELICIOUS food & GREAT service!! Every chance I get, I try to have dinner there. Great food & atmosphere!! Panida S. on Yelp! 6/2009.
  • January 04, 2009 - Really likes it - I really like this fine small restaurant across from Atlanta’s Chastain Park. It is a great spot anytime but particularly so for lunch or daylight dinners in their terrace area. FlaBoy on Urban Spoon 1/2009.
  • Horseradish grill is located off the beaten restaurant path in Chastain Park. The location is truly lovely, and it is a charming little restaurant inside. Fried chicken is the specialty here (they have been featured on Food Network preparing this), and it does not disappoint. A great place for a special occasion! Sam g on Insider Pages 11/2008.

Finding Your Favorite Chain

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

diningout3.jpg

Brown’s Guides has a simple way to provide you with information on your favorite chain and franchise restaurants in Georgia. It’s user-friendly and restaurant-friendly and is guaranteed to give you the most up-to-date information available on food, locations and hours.

Here’s how it works.

EVERY chain and franchise restaurant in the state is included in the Georgia Restaurants category under the “Chains and Franchises” sub-category. Browse the list of chains and franchises with Georgia locations. Pick your favorite or try something different. The link takes you directly to the main corporate website where you can search by city and/or zip.

There are a couple of advantages to this approach as contrasted to listing every restaurant separately. One is that with a large franchise, such as Chick-fil-A or Zaxby’s, you get to see all of the restaurants in a city, not just one. Another is that you are guaranteed of getting the most complete and up-to-date information about the restaurants available. One of the most persistent shortcomings of the 21 “Restaurants Finders” I have bookmarked is that chain and franchise listings are often out-of-date, sometimes 2 years or more.

Try this for finding your favorite chain or franchise or for a new restaurant experience. Let me know if you see anything missing.
