Fun on the Farm
I was very excited to get the call to go to Cagle’s Dairy Farm up in Canton. After all, a trip to the farm is not only educational, but it does something that few places can; The farm brings out the child in you! Think about being out in the country, feeding the baby calves, going on a hayride. These are things that can turn any adult into a kid again. The day I shot for Cagle’s, there were numerous tours and even the adults on the tour had a great time!
For me, the highlight was the border collie herding demonstration. The fact that one small dog could command such a large herd of cows was nothing short of amazing to me. To see the look on the visitor’s faces I could tell that they were also amazed.
Shooting video on the farm was exciting in itself. I got there a little bit before the tours did and was able to shoot some video beforehand. When I was in the calf barn, I was petting one of the calves when she decided that she wanted a taste of my shirt.
Little did I know in the pen beside me was another calf who was trying to munch on the backside of my shirt! I didn’t know that I’d be lunch! Fortunately, no harm was done to my shirt.
Watching the edited video now, it really does take me back to the day of the video shoot and how enjoyable it really was. That’s one of the things that makes video so valuable. It really takes you there.
