Pro Guiding Service is an international mountain guiding service located in North Bend, WA. Founded in 1999 by Swiss IFMGA mountain guide Martin Volken, he and his staff offer climbing trips and courses for all levels for ski, avalanche education, rock climbing Washington and alpine-based adventures. Domestically we offer trips and courses on Snoqualmie Pass, Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, North Cascades National Park and Alaska. Our international destinations take us to Canada, Switzerland, Italy, France, Norway, Mexico and Chile.

Domestic Ski Tours Pro Guiding Service is the pioneer of classic Washington ski tours such as the Forbidden Tour, the Snoqualmie Haute Route, the Buckner North Face descent etc. We have ski guided people up Mount Shuksan, Mount Baker, the Picket Traverse, the Isolation Traverse, the Ptarmigan Traverse and many more. The guides of Pro Guiding Service are also the authors of the book Backcountry Ski and Snowboard Routes Washington. Martin Volken wrote the guidebook Backcountry Skiing Snoqualmie Pass. We ski guide regularly in the Snoqualmie Backcountry on popular routes like the Chair Peak Circumnavigation, the Slot Couloir, the Kendall Peak area and much more.

Rock Climbing Courses Pro Guiding Service offers introductory, intermediate, advanced and trad rock climbing courses 30 minutes away from Seattle. The climbing areas of Little Si (Exit 32) and Exit 38 near North Bend, WA are our back yard. This large sport climbing venue with over 400 routes offers an easily accessible and high-quality course setting. We also offer rock climbing courses in the classic crack climbing mecca of Index, WA, and sport and traditional climbing courses in Vantage, WA. We also offer Kids Rock Climbing courses in the North Bend locations.

Alpine Climbing Courses Alpine climbing education by AMGA and IFMGA certified mountain guides. Pro Guiding Service offers classic mountaineering courses, glacier travel courses and alpine ice climbing courses in North Cascades National Park, on Mount Baker and on Snoqualmie Pass. We firmly believe that our courses take place in some of the best high alpine and glaciated mountains in the Lower 48 states. Several of our guides are part of the AMGA instructor team which assures that our courses are consistent with the latest standard in mountaineering education.

Ski Touring and AIARE Avalanche Courses Pro Guiding Service offers backcountry skiing, ski touring and ski mountaineering courses for all ability levels. They are great stand alone courses, but also work very well in conjunction with our extensive AIARE Avalanche courses. Our backcountry ski courses and ski mountaineering courses are conducted in the Snoqualmie backcountry less than one hour from Seattle, the North Cascades National Park, on Mount Baker and the Whistler backcountry. All the courses are movement based courses, meaning you will spend next to no time in the classroom. Our courses are 100% application based, meaning you will apply every concept that you are introduced to on a ski tour in relevant terrain. If the offered course dates don’t work for you, please call or email us for a private arrangement. We do it all the time.

About Brown's Guide 285 Articles

Brown’s Guides is a website about the top outdoor experiences in America and about the professional outfitters and guides who know them best. BG selects guides and outfitters located in or in close proximity to the Natural Areas they provide activities in. These outfitters know the areas and care about protecting and preserving them in a way that outfitters based in other states never can. Hiking, biking, sea kayaking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and other outdoor activities are indexed on the site. BG has been doing this type of thing since 1972 in books, magazines, maps and on the Internet.
