Red Rock Country is an area of north-central Arizona around Sedona famous for its red sandstone cliffs and huge sandstone spires. The description “red rock country” is applied to other parts of the southwest due to the red sandstone that covers much of this part of the U.S. For example, the area around Moab, Utah, is referred to as “red rock country.” Monument Valley between Arizona and Utah is often referred to as “red rock country.” In fact much of the landscape around the five national parks in the southern half of Utah: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef is sculpted from this red sandstone and referred to as “red rock country.” Nevada has Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. But in this instance, we are talking about Sedona red rock tours in an area that displays the red sandstone characteristic of other “red rock countries” sculpted into spires, canyons, and cliffs.
